Adventures Part Four – hiking Mount Lomond

Technically part of Queenstown but this hike was an absolute corker so deserved its very own post! We literally got a map of mountains to hike near Queenstown and chose the Ben Lomond track as you can take a ride on the gondola (and luge if you wish!) which cuts out the first 45 minutes. And of course at the top of the gondola is the luge which is too difficult to resist even after a 5 hour hike! Out of all the hikes in NZ this has got to be right up there as one of the best! The views were incredible! 360 degree views of so many mountains and lake Wakatipu, it really was breath taking. A tough slog getting to the top but well worth it for the absolute silence and panoramic views. Best hiked on a clear day to truly get the most out of it and best avoided in rain as the track basically turns into rock face in some places (and the only way is down!) When we arrived back to the gondola we grabbed a well deserved ice cream and had a couple of turns on the luge before heading back for a much needed time in the spa!

See the very top? That’s where we’re headed!

One of the most scenic bench views I’ve experienced!

We made it!
