The long awaited day finally arrived! It was a standard affair really – peed with rain, cold wind smacking into us and a pretty stubborn removal trailer! We’ve now been in the new house for two weeks now and it’s gradually feeling like home. There’s not much to do to the inside of the house apart from a few pictures here and there and generally putting our stamp on the place. The big plans are more to do with the garden. The climate here is made for outdoor living so we will go with that! There have been talks of building a pizza oven, having an outside bar and hammocks. Lots of fruit and veggies will be planted and generally a nice garden to look at. I can see a lot of BBQ’s happening in this place!
Just to make the house a bit more of a home we picked ourselves up a couple of housewarming gifts for ourselves in the form of two cute bundles of fluff (see below!)
The area we have moved to is roughly 25km north of Christchurch, which takes around 20-30 minutes to drive depending on where in Chch you are heading. The route can get congested in the morning due to more and more people living out this way. Usually if you tweak your working hours to miss peak time then it’s fine. There are plans to build a by-pass to help with congestion, although it has been delayed for another year or so. Woodend is close to a really lovely beach, an Irish Bistro, fish n chip shop, a pub, an Indian Takeaway and a cafe that does bacon sarnies that would make Poms in the UK jealous! The beach is easy to reach from our place and takes about 10 minutes to cycle or if we load up the car with body boards then 5 minutes to drive. There are picnic areas and a forest making it a great little spot for those sunny days. Just over the road from our house is a reserve with a path that takes you around a landscaped area. Reading back over that last sentence I’ve made that sound more upmarket than it is really. We basically have a nice park just over the road with some cool trees ‘n stuff!
