Crazy bike tracks and sea mists!

Another trip enjoying the great outdoors! We went to Godley Head again, about 20 minutes from our house, to attempt an “intermediate level” bike track. How hard could it be? Turns out we weren’t quite ready for said track, turned around and tried another one. As novice bikers the thought of riding along a very thin track with a sheer drop to one side was not appealing! The track didn’t seem to be very forgiving so we found another track, which tested our uphill abilities. Needless to say we require a bit of practice! We managed to get quite high (and quite tired!) and enjoyed the views as we climbed. Whilst we were at Godley Head a sea mist descended on the Port Hills, which made for some great photo opportunities. The mist came in from sea and blanketed the hills and really made us feel like we were up in the clouds. I find that with a lot of places in New Zealand you can visit them many times but they will be different each time. With such changeable weather and so many different activities at each place it’s like going to a new place every time.

After our day out we went through the usual routine of sun loungers, books, a cheeky Cubra Libre and a BBQ dinner!

Godley Head is about 30 minutes from the centre of Chch towards Sumner. Be careful with which roads you choose because some are closed due to rock fall. The drive there is lovely. The winding roads take you up into the Port Hills and you get some stunning views towards the ocean. The road trip there is a trip in itself! Make sure you take lots of sunscreen and hats as some of the tracks are not very sheltered.
