Happy Waitangi Day everyone! Today is a day where NZ join together to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. This was a significant day back in 1840 for NZ and has since been marked as a bank holiday. On this day NZ was officially made part of of the British Empire. We decided to make the most of our day off and headed to Arthurs Pass to see the Devils Punch Bowl aka a waterfall. The scenery and weather did not disappoint! We packed a picnic and headed off on our road trip.
Taking a road trip in NZ (only commenting on the south island) is a great experience! Barely any traffic, parking always available and free and there is so much right on your doorstep. Also, petrol is a reasonable price (currently $2.08 per litre or 1.04 quid) so a road trip doesn’t break the bank. Mixed in with a hike and picnic it makes for a cheap day out!
